Chewy Inc, the online pet pharmacy, is cashing in on the spiked demand of online consultation since pet owners are unable to bring their pets to the clinic on account of the pandemic.
Chewy also clarified that members of its Autoship program, that ships products to the customers automatically, can use this service for free.
At this point in time, the telehealth services is focused on providing advice and solving health related and wellness issues of pets, and not on diagnosis of a medical condition or prescription of drugs, explained Chewy.
The company has made the service available in 35 states, and will expand into other US states soon.
Teledoc Health Inc, another telehealth service provider, has observed a considerable spike in their demand as the pandemic induced restrictions force people to resort the online consultations.
Chewy reveals that their sales have surged during the pandemic since a lot of people are shopping online for medicines and pet food. In the second quarter, the company’s sales went up by a whopping 50% to $170 million.
As the pandemic is showing no signs of slowing down, the company expects to continue to profit from this trend in the near term, and even introduce more products and services. The services, of course, come in handy for pet owners since most people are afraid to go out unless they absolutely have to. Under such circumstances, its best to make use of online services, whenever available.
